The importance of utilizing platforms other than Facebook + Instagram
Many of us creators/ business owners love to utilize Instagram and Facebook as our main business platform. I mean why wouldn’t we?!? It’s incredibly easy to use, over a billion people use these social media platforms, it has many resources to reach new people and it is a great way to overall attract potential clients.
But did you know that Pinterest and TikTok are just as important to utilize?
I like to see it as, “Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket” when it comes to platforms you’re using to run your business.
Remember earlier this year when Facebook and Instagram were down for several hours, and were not functioning? Did that cause you a sense of panic and stress? Along with that, have you noticed how the Instagram algorithm has been really difficult to predict and sometimes causes your engagement to tank?
Let’s prevent this affecting your business by expanding your business resources/content to other platforms, so that if one platform goes down, or is failing to increase your reach, it’s no problem because you still have other platforms that are developed.
Let’s look at TikTok:
TikTok is one of the fastest growing platforms, reaching one billion users just a few months ago (which is just as many as Instagram users).
People of all generations are on TikTok.
Thanks to TikTok’s algorithm you have a greater chance of being seen and even going “viral” than you do with Instagram reels. And as I pointed out before, Instagram algorithm has been making it extremely difficult to be seen even BY YOUR OWN FOLLOWERS.
You are able to link other social media accounts to TikTok and gain traction on all platforms.
TikTok is a lot less dependent on “aesthetics”.
Now Pinterest:
Pinterest is used as a search engine by many (just as you would use Google).
Pinterest is primarily used for browsing new ideas AND things to “buying”. Unlike Instagram, people utilize Pinterest when searching for inspiration, help, and ideas. This means you have a greater chance of attracting potential clients.
Like most social media platforms, you are able to accumulate follower.
You have the ability to link your Pinterest account back to your other social medias, website, and blog through posts which creates all around traction to you and your business.
You are able to repurpose the majority of your Instagram/Facebook content to Pinterest. This means static posts, carousel posts and reels!
Reaching a demographic that might not use other social media platforms as often.
If you have never used TikTok or Pinterest, but use Instagram and/or Facebook, that is no problems because all of these platforms have very similar features and formats. This is displayed below:
There is also a great article that breaks down the similarities and differences between the popular social media platforms, that you can read HERE!
How you go about marketing your business and posting content on these platforms is very similar, with only slight differences in growth strategy. All platforms require consistency, but its in the type of content posted and engagement required on your part that can vary.
